Hi everybody, we are in the process of starting up our own freeze-drying business out of our home. We're impressed by the knowledge and experience from those of you who have posted messages have.

We have been reading books and finding articles online so far, but still am wondering what other vital info we may be unaware of, what roadblocks to possibly expect, and would like some feedback from those who have been doing this and can provide a little direction. I know it's a little broad of a topic, but any advise would be great(ie, is it better to have a florist/artist background, who in the industry provides the pre/post treatments, should we be using other preservations methods with the freeze-drying,etc)

We have the desire to learn as much as possible and plan on coming to the syposium in Vegas. (Are there classes for newbies??) It looks to hopefully answer some of our questions.

Hope to meet you all in March!

Thanks again, Jessica and Ian-Minnesota

Jessica and Ian, I have some information you may find helpful if you would like to call. My number is 515-249-7724. I have some articles and such that may come in handy to refer to from time to time. You're not so far away so it may be worth it to get these.

Hi Guys! I use the silica drying method only! There is no need to buy a freeze dryer if you want to keep your costs down. I find the freeze-dryer really intimidating and needs a lot of maintnance. You can get amazing results using silica gel or oolitic sand. You can check out my website. www.voesflowers.com. to see my work. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
